CHILDREN AND MARTIAL ART: Congratulations! If you’re reading this, you have probably just enrolled your child in our school. We know how important your child is to you. That’s why we take great care in what and how we teach them. It is so important to us that we teach them right, that we are asking you, the parent, to form a partnership with us. While we have the awesome responsibility of teaching your child the right way to think about what they are learning, we would like to request that you help us by doing two things. First, reinforce what we teach at home. Learn the 8 Key Concepts and the 10 Articles of Faith and help them to understand them (don’t worry about the karate techniques, we’ll teach those). Second, make sure they come to class just like you make sure they go to school. Our program is one that will teach them things they will learn nowhere else and be able to use for the rest of their lives. Treat this as an Achievement Program for your child’s self development and not just as a means of having fun or something to do and you (and your child) will never regret it.
WE ARE A “BLACK BELT” ACADEMY: The commitment to becoming a “Black Belt” is the first step in insuring the student’s success in our martial arts program and what we strive to teach and represent. It’s like graduating from High School. We want each and every student to be ALL they can be and achieving the coveted “Black Belt” rank is evidence of that achievement! We encourage all students and parents of students to commit to the goal of “black belt”. Note: The “Black Belt” in Tang Soo Do is actually midnight blue in color. The reason is because the original founder did not want to use the color black in the rank system because it represented perfection, finality, and death. However, the color midnight blue represented “almost black but not perfect”, constantly achieving, and humility. Therefore, it better represented the philosophy of the style.
